London, July 2005

This image was on London's South Bank the week after the tragic terrorist attacks on the tube and bus network of 7th July 2005.

Having bought tickets for a concert some months earlier my trip was already planned, and during a walk on this particular hot July afternoon I was struck how one person can find their own solitude in such a metropolis.

This stark contrast, against a backdrop of the CIty of London seemed somehow poignant.

During the subsequent printings of this negative the magnitude of the previous weeks' events began to seep from it.

'The City' sits squat and unmoved, and to think of what occured beneath those very streets remains invisible and this feels incredibly unfair.

Now the figure on the bench symbolises the isolation and fragility of life within an immovable infrastructure.
